Valley Local Hosts Safety Planning Meeting

On Wednesday, August 2, 2022, at 6:30 P.M., the administrative team at Valley Local School District hosted a safety planning meeting with first responders from the following agencies:

  • Southern Ohio Correctional Facility

  • Ohio Highway State Patrol

  • Scioto County Sheriff’s Office

  • Scioto Emergency Management

  • Jefferson Township Fire Department

  • Valley Township Fire Department

  • Shawnee Family Health

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss safety and security at Valley Local Schools.  In addition, participants were introduced to Navigate 360, which is an Emergency Safety app that Valley Local Schools employ that is designed to help the school staff respond safely and effectively during drills and emergencies.  It also provides first responders critical information needed during drills and emergencies.

Roles and responsibilities of the various agencies during a crisis were also discussed.  The district is mandated to practice different emergencies and procedures throughout the year, and first responders will be actively assisting with drills that are scheduled.  The participants reviewed scheduled safety activities for the 2022-23 school year.  The first responders were also invited to participate in quarterly safety team meetings. Staff members and students from each building, as well as parents and first responders, also participate on the Safety Teams. Keeping children and adults safe at school is the district’s #1 mission. If you are interested in participating on the safety team, please contact Lisa Harley at 740-259-6621.
